Tree Service & Removal in Rutherfordton, NC
Our tree service is the planned removal of trees that have become a risk or a problem on your land, done around Rutherfordton on a day we set with you. That covers the dead, the leaning, the ones in the way of a build or a view, and roadside trees that need the bucket truck. A tree already down on a roof or across a drive is an emergency, so call (828) 289-8180 for storm damage tree removal, which we answer 24/7.
Signs a Tree Should Come Down
A tree usually shows trouble long before it fails. Walk the yard after a windy week and look for these signs.
- The trunk leans toward the house, the garage or the driveway, and the lean is worse than it was last year.
- The tree is dead or dying, with bare limbs in summer and bark falling off in sheets.
- Big dead limbs hang over the roof, the porch or the spot where you park.
- The soil has heaved or cracked on one side of the base, or roots have lifted out of the ground.
- Limbs hang over the road in front of your property and drop onto it in every wind.
- The tree stands right where your new garage, drive or garden is meant to go.
If a limb or trunk touches a power line, the utility has to make the line safe before anyone works near it.
Hazard Trees Along the Road: Our Bucket Truck Jobs

On June 27, 2026 we posted “H&L tree crew removing hazards trees”, and on July 31 the crew was back at a roadside with the bucket truck. The photos show the truck on the shoulder, its boom up in the canopy and cones out in the lane. From the bucket, a tall tree beside the road comes apart from the top down, in pieces small enough to control.
The wood lands along the edge instead of across both lanes, so traffic only waits for short spells. Limbs and leaves come off the asphalt before the cones go back on the truck.
How a Planned Tree Removal Goes

- Bryson comes out to look at the tree, what sits under it and how a truck can reach it.
- We agree which trees come down and what happens to the logs and the brush.
- On the day, cones go out and people, pets and cars stay well clear of the area where wood will fall.
- Next to a house or a road, the bucket truck lets us take the tree down in sections rather than in one fall.
- We clean up the limbs and debris as agreed, so the yard or the road is usable when we leave.
Trees in the Way of a Build or a View
Sometimes the tree is healthy and simply in the wrong place. It stands where a garage or a driveway is going, or it blocks the mountain view you bought the lot for. One or two trees like that are a tree job. A whole stand of them across a house site is land clearing, which we plan with the grading that follows, so the ground is ready for the builder rather than left full of holes.
Tree work also brings people back. A family who bought in Rutherfordton in 2022 first hired us to cut down a few trees, and they have called us again several times since then. Bryson once even got a customer’s cat safely down from a tree, though cat rescue is not on our service list.
What Should You Do With Your Yard After Tree Removal?
Expect some marks. Heavy wood dropping and trucks crossing the lawn can leave ruts, and the patch where the tree stood is often bare clay where shade and roots kept the grass thin. For most yards the fix is simple: fill and level the low spots, then get seed down before a hard rain moves the loose soil.
We can do both. Our crew handles grading to smooth the ground, then hydroseeding sprays grass seed over the bare area so it can take hold. That is how one customer’s cleanup went. The trees leaning toward the home came down, the debris went, a drainage system went in, and the ground was graded and hydroseeded so they could grow grass instead of weeds. If the ground is soaked, we may hold the heavy work until it firms up, because tracks in wet clay go deep.

What Customers Say
- “I cannot recommend him and the team at H&L strongly enough, just hard work for an honest price, exceeded my expectations by a MILE!!!”
100 year old, massive oak tree fell on my home yesterday and did extensive damage. Bryson pulled his team together in under and hour and had them at my house. 6 hours later, the second picture, tree off of the house, no longer raining in my living room. I cannot recommend him and the team at H&L strongly enough, just hard work for an honest price, exceeded my expectations by a MILE!!!
William J. ★★★★★ Google review - “H&L did an outstanding job at our property.”
H&L did an outstanding job at our property. Our adjacent property needed some serious work done and Bryson and his crew went above and beyond! They removed debris, took down trees leaning towards the home, installed a water drainage system, graded, and hydroseeded so we can have some grass instead of 8 foot weeds. We had such a good experience we already are on the schedule to work with them again at our main property. Highly recommend H&L for quality and professional work!
Cassandra G. ★★★★★ Google review - “They came out same day and cleared the tree for us.”
H&L are outstanding! I had a big tree fall first thing in the morning while I was at work and it completely blocked me from my home and trapped my sister on the property. They came out same day and cleared the tree for us. Super professional and would recommend them!

Questions We Hear a Lot
-
Watch for a lean toward the house that gets worse, dead limbs over the roof, bark peeling away or cracked soil at the base. If you are not sure, Bryson can come and look at it with you.
-
Not always, but the truck needs clear access and the cars need to be moved. Show us the property lines and anything buried in the yard, such as a water line or a drain pipe, so heavy equipment stays off it.
-
The price depends on the tree’s size, how close it stands to the house or the road, how the truck gets in and what you want done with the wood. Call (828) 289-8180 and Bryson will look at the job before he gives you a number.
-
We settle that before the work starts, because it changes the time on site. Some people keep the logs for firewood and some want everything gone, and dump truck services are on our list for the hauling.
-
A single tree with open ground around it can be a short job, while several large trees near a house take longer because they come down in sections. Weather can move the date too, since the bucket truck stays down in high wind.
